TWD - Flaky Apple Nectarine Turnovers

Turnovers? You can make flaky turnovers at home without spending hours working the dough? It's true. This is the recipe.

The recipe calls for the dough to be done with a pastry cutter, but I tossed all the ingredients into my large capacity Cuisinart and let it do the work. Easy as pie.

I used locally grown Ginger Crisp apples and some very ripe nectarines for the filling. Because I tend to overdo things and then end up wiping away run-off, I underfilled the turnovers. I know now that this pastry can stand up to quite a lot of filling and will use more next time.

There will definitely be a next time. These turnovers were a very popular treat. Many thanks to Jules of Someone's In The Kitchen for choosing this great dessert. The complete recipe can be found on her website under today's date. If you're like me and want to have a paper version of the recipe, the beautiful website Les gourmandises d'Isa always has a printable recipe.

Why didn't I think to photograph the inside of these flaky delicious pastries? Because I was focussed on eating my share before the family descended.

  14. Yours are so pretty they put mine to shame. To shame I say!!!!! How perfect could yours be? I think that was a great idea to use your Cuisinart. Wish I had thought of that.

  15. I love turnovers! Dessert with gloppy stuff inside that you can pick up and safely hold in your hand. I had some overripe nectarines, but all I did was pour booze over them. Silly me.

  23. I like how you shaped the turnovers, they look wonderful! I didn't fill mine enough either, so my inside shot wasn't very pretty and didn't make the cut when I chose photos.

  27. Your flaky apple/nectarine turnovers look delicious! I love the shape of them and is that cinnamon sugar for the topping? It's nice to know the dough works in the Cuisinart too. =)
