TWD - Chewy Chunky Blondies

Oh my, were these ever good. Not the dessert to have in the house on week 17 of an ongoing diet (35lbs lost!) but a nice chewy treat nonetheless.

On the other hand, this is a perfect recipe for mid-summer when it's time to go through and clean out your candy drawer. What's that - you haven't turned one of your fridge crisper drawers into a stash for seeds, nuts, baking chips, bakers chocolate and dried fruit? Where do you keep your goodies? I want to know.

I made these squares with chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, walnuts and the last handful of white chocolate chips. They were so delicious I may never make them again. I understand that other bakers had this same problem.

This recipe was chosen by Nicole and can be found on her blog Cookies on Friday. Go and try it at your peril!

Since I made these weeks ago, they don't have a current garden background. I thought I'd offer this photo I snapped on the weekend of a butterfly on a Brown Eyed Susan. Enjoy!

  6. I keep my goodies in my pantry downstairs in the basement.

That way I have to huff and puff my way down there if I want to indulge.

  7. Congrats on week 17 and 35 pounds. What a great accomplishment. You must have amazing will power to still bake along every week.
Love you photos, you blondies look like Dories. Mine were good but didn't turn out like the photo! Beautiful flower and butterfly.

  10. Congratualations on the weight loss! I agree with you - these blondies are actually too good! That is the reason why I don't make them very often, I would be the size of a house!

  11. Delicious! I used leftover trail mix so that I wouldn't have it around as a temptation. Somehow, turning it into blondies didn't really eliminate the temptation factor. I didn't think this through very carefully...

  12. I love that "they were so good I may never make them again." Perfect truth.
And YOU GO on that diet. I'm a little jealous. But you deserve it if you've still be doing TWD and are actually losing weight!

  13. Butterflies and bars - they go together! You really kept the "high" - mine sank like a battleship, but still delicious! Glad you enjoyed them - it seemed like everyone did! Happy Summer!

  15. Butterflies, Bar Cookies and Weight Loss - seems incongruous to me. Kudos to you. I am not sure, I could resist all those chocolate chips.

Fortunatley, I made these for my husband so I could not put in the chocolate chips. Without, them, I can pass them by.

  17. Definitely a diet-buster. I only made half a recipe, and I'm thinking about freezing those that remain. Yours look very delicious.

  18. Oh yes, I had a big problem with these! I stuck half of the dough in the freezer...but it didn't last the weekend before getting pulled out! :) Congrats on 35 lbs lost!

  21. Your blondies look perfect! 35 pounds is an impressive weight loss, especially with treats like this around.

I love that you keep the goodies in a crisper! I keep my baking supplies in a very crowded cupboard. Every once in a while, something will fall on my fiance and he'll tell me we need to clean it out. And I do, then it gets crowded again.

  22. Congrats on your weight loss! I've been wanting to lose weight but with the weekly participation in TWD, I don't think I'll ever achieve my ideal weight. ;-)

Your blondies look great and I like your picture of the butterfly too. :-)
